History
Winchester introduced the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire in 1959 as a longer, faster jacketed-bullet rimfire for small-game and varmint work beyond .22 LR range. It found a lasting home in revolvers, lever guns, and bolt rifles, and more recently in high-capacity defensive pistols like the Kel-Tec PMR-30. It remains the standard 'step up' rimfire.
