.224 Valkyrie
A genuinely clever long-range idea whose rough launch and the ARC's rise left it a well-liked also-ran.

History
Federal introduced the .224 Valkyrie in late 2017, necking the 6.8 SPC case to .22 caliber so AR-15s could push very heavy, sleek .22 bullets supersonic past 1,300 yards. Launch enthusiasm was high, but finicky factory ammo early on and 6mm ARC's arrival stole its momentum. It retains a niche among long-range small-frame AR builders.
What it's used for
Iconic platforms
AR-15s with Valkyrie barrels and 6.8 SPC magazines, plus a few Savage and Mossberg bolt guns.
Common load types
Heavy match hollow point boat tail and polymer-tip varmint loads.
