History
Winchester developed the .30 Carbine in 1940 for the Army's light rifle program, and the resulting M1 Carbine became the most-produced American small arm of WWII, serving through Korea and Vietnam. The cartridge is essentially a straight-walled, rifle-fired magnum pistol round. Surplus carbines and modern reproductions keep it in steady civilian use.
