History
Introduced by Germany's rifle commission in 1888 and updated with a spitzer bullet in 1905, the 7.92x57mm armed Germany through both world wars in the Gewehr 98, K98k, and MG34/42 machine guns. It spread across dozens of countries and remains a fine hunting cartridge in Europe. In America it rides mainly in surplus Mausers, with US factory loads kept mild out of caution for old .318-bore rifles.
