History
France developed the lizard pattern in the late 1940s for airborne troops, printing horizontal green and brown strokes on khaki. It fought through Indochina and Algeria, then largely left French service in the early 1960s amid the political fallout of the Algiers putsch. Its descendants include tigerstripe and Portugal's vertical lizard.

Still effective in dry scrub and broken vegetation; variants served for decades with forces across Africa and Europe.
