History
Adopted in the early-to-mid 1950s for shelter halves and helmet covers, with a green leaf face and a brown cloud reverse. It was ubiquitous on M1 helmets in Vietnam even as the uniforms beneath varied. Mitchell-pattern covers persisted until the PASGT helmet arrived in the 1980s.
In the field
Rarely worn as a uniform, but the green leaf side on helmet covers and shelter halves is one of the defining textures of Vietnam-era kit.
