History
Designed in the 1970s using the rocky high deserts of the American Southwest as reference terrain and issued from the early 1980s. It became world-famous during the 1991 Gulf War, where the black-and-white rock clusters proved too busy for open Arabian sand. The three-color DCU replaced it in the early-to-mid 1990s.
In the field
Designed for rocky high desert; too busy for open sand — replaced by tri-color.
